BMEA Purpose StatementThe British Marine Equipment Association (BMEA), established in 1966, is a market orientated trade association representing and promoting the interests of British manufacturers and suppliers of marine equipment and marine services to all types of commercial ships, from the smallest workboats to largest ships afloat.
BMEA also serves the interests of manufacturers and suppliers of hotel equipment to passenger ships; marine equipment and services to ports and terminals; the offshore industry, the fishing industry and marine technology.
The BMEA speaks for the marine equipment industry and represents it in dealings with UK and EU government agencies and other national groups. The BMEA also organise and co-ordinate marine related trade missions, exhibitions, seminars and events, primarily focused on export.
BMEA is a constituent trade association under the umbrella of the Society of Maritime Industries and has a solid membership base.
The association has a council of up to sixteen members, from various sections of the industry, which meets regularly to discuss matters of interest or concern to members.
Services Provided to Members- Attendance at major international exhibitions relating to marine equipment. BMEA facilitates substantial grants from UK Trade and Investment to assist with exhibition costs.
- Outward trade missions to developing and established territories usually supported by UK Trade and Investment.
- Inward trade missions, whereby BMEA arranges for international ship owners, and shipyard personnel to attend presentations in the UK by marine equipment manufacturers and service firms.
- Information on issues of significance to marine equipment suppliers provided in regular newsletters.
- Opportunities to network with other members for system and sub-system packages.
